Dwight in Dallas

Finally! Last night I saw Dwight Yoakam in concert. The event was sponsored by Shiner Bock. The venue was Gilley's parking lot with the Dallas skyline as a backdrop including the neon (argon?) green Bank of America building, Pegasus, and Reunion Tower. It was rather apropos that several Union Pacific trains pulling cattle cars passed by to our left during the show.

The crowd was small (I'm guessing <1500) which suited me just fine since I'm not into going places with throngs of people. I wonder if Dwight was disappointed -- he was huge a few years ago, and while he's still producing great music he doesn't get much radio play and his fan base seems to have dwindled. It may be because his music doesn't fit today's commercialized country sound. He's more of a mix between the old and new country with vocals that sound a bit more like the old.

But he made this fan happy! He played four out of the five of his songs on my "Top 25 Most Played" ITunes list:

- Turn It On, Turn It Up, Turn Me Loose
- A Thousand Miles From Nowhere
- Crazy Little Thing Called Love
- and he ended the evening with Fast As You!

Thanks Dwight for your great music and fantastic evening!
